About D. Christopher Lenaerts
I am a furniture designer/builder who has been building commissioned furniture and fabricating other artist's projects since 1986. I spent two years at the California College of Arts and Crafts and one year at the College of the Redwoods Fine Woodworking Program. I also attended the Program in Artistry at the Swain School of Design and did a residency at Leeds Design Workshop in Easthampton, MA. I was fortunate to have studied with James Krenov, Alphonse Mattia, and David Powell, the previous generation of furniture designer/builders. I have also worked as a carpenter, so am proficient at designing and building things.

Though I make many things with wood, my formal training included a wide variety of exposure to other materials and skills, including leather, ceramics, non-ferrous metals, book binding, boat building, and more.

This is the first building I ever designed and constructed. It serves as a toolshed at my house. Most of the material for construction of the shed was recycled from a barn that I took down on my property.
